First, British TV Station Will Broadcast Azan
Media estimates that Islam will become the dominant religion in the UK.
Channel 4 will be the first mainstream TV station that will broadcast the azan Subuh in the UK. This step is done in order to facilitate minority Muslim during Ramadan, but not everyone is happy with this decision.
Reported dailymail, Tuesday, July 2, 2013, will begin airing Subuh azan for 30 days on Channel 4 next week, on July 9, the first day of Ramadan in the UK. TV station's programming chief, said Ralph Lee is to facilitate 2.8 million British Muslims to worship in the month of Ramadan.
The TV station will broadcast the azan Subuh only around 3 am. Lee said, it has been previously consulted by scholars in the UK. Muezzin is Hassen Rasool, a Muslim musician famous for the beauty of his voice in chanting verses of Al-Quran.
In addition to the prayer calls, said Lee, the call to prayer is expected to change the prejudice of Islam, especially after the killing of soldiers in Woolwich by a radical some time ago.
"The call to prayer is to call Muslims to worship in quiet moments, is also expected, this makes the audience sitting in the audience and realized there are moments like this (morning prayer)," said Lee.
The move drew criticism from right-wing groups in the UK, one of which was the British First, who claim to be patriots British political movement. In their Twitter account calling for a boycott and said, "Be prepared for a TV program that supports Islam for over a month on Channel 4."
But Lee did not move. He said, this is a call to support Channel 4 in the form of religious minorities in the UK.
"No wonder Channel 4 will be criticized for focusing on religious minorities, but that's what we do, which is provide an alternative space and voice to those who are under-represented," said Lee.
Previously, Daily Mail predicted that Islam will soon become the dominant religion in Britain's future.
"An estimated one in just 20 years time, there will be more active Muslims in this country than those who come to church.'s Thought unimaginable even half a century ago," writes the Daily Mail.
